Ag’s future supported by budget

WAFarmers is pleased to see the State government retain its commitment to the future competitiveness of agriculture in today’s State budget.

President Dale Park said various funding arrangements should ensure WA’s agriculture sector is better prepared for new markets and the opportunities presented by Asia.

“Despite budget pressures, the State government has stood by its promise to help grow agriculture as the industry faces new challenges and opportunities,” Mr Park said.

In 2014–15, $51.5million of the $300million commitment for the Seizing the Opportunity Agriculture initiative has been allocated, indicating the project will begin to take off in the next financial year.

“With Seizing the Opportunity funding peaking at $124million in 2016-17, I look forward to seeing how agriculture will change and improve as a result,” Mr Park said.

WAFarmers also welcomes growth in the Department of Agriculture and Food’s commitment to the transformational development of the agrifood sector.

“WAFarmers intends to continue to work closely with the Department of Agriculture and Food to assist in achieving its goal to grow the agrifood sector,” Mr Park said.
