Members of Western Australia’s peak farming body has passed a motion to “endorse the Federal National Party’s decision to abandon Australia’s current net-zero by 2050 commitment.”
The meeting of the Albany Zone of WAFarmers yesterday formally called for the organisation’s policy to be updated to “reflect recent political, economic, and technological developments surrounding Australia’s emissions reduction commitments.”
The motion also “calls on:
- The WA Liberal Party and the Federal Liberal Party to review and realign their climate and energy policies with the Federal National Party’s practical, regionally focused approach;
- The WA National Party to formally endorse and adopt the policy position of their federal counterparts; and
- The Federal Coalition to establish a unified climate and energy framework that prioritises energy security, regional development, and technology-driven emissions reduction ahead of arbitrary long-term targets.”
CEO Trevor Whittington said the motion reflects a definite mood change among members because of the barrage of inane and expensive red and green tape being dumped on farmers.
“Mark my words, this is the beginning of a revolution,” Mr Whittington said.
“Farming families and their communities are sick and tired of political virtue signalling nonsense.”
“Emissions reduction is an important and worthy goal, but it must be achieved through policies that make sense and work for all Australians – especially those who produce our food.”
“Arbitrary targets and an ‘at any cost’ mentality are tools of the fool trying to win the votes of zealots and evangelists.”
“I’m very proud of our Albany Zone members for doing their bit in leading us back to a more balanced, common-sense approach to important issues like climate change,” Mr Whittington concluded.
