Bee Section Elects New President

The Western Australian Farmers Federation (Inc.) (WAFarmers) Bee Section has elected Stephen Fewster as its President for the next 12 months at their annual section conference.

More than 60 beekeepers, industry providers, researchers and government department representatives met in Perth last week for the WAFarmers Beekeepers Annual General Meeting Conference.

Mr Fewster was elected to replace David Leyland as Beekeepers Section President, who will remain on the Executive.

Mr Fewster said he was pleased to accept the role of President and was looking forward to gaining some valuable wins for the industry in a challenging environment.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the work of the bee section executive and continuing our focus on training after the successful implementation of the first Nationally Accredited Beekeeping Skill Set,” Mr Fewster said.

“Our focus in the next twelve months will also include looking at the effects of pesticides on bees, disease management plans and the way beekeepers access public land.”

Leilani Leyland and Rod Pavy were also re-elected to the Executive at the conference, with the remaining positions to be filled at the Executive’s first meeting.

The conference, held at Country Comfort Inner City Motel, would not have been possible without corporate sponsors Wescobee Ltd, Burnham and Associates Training Consultancy, Better Bee Hives, Ensystex Australasia, Avant Equipment and Country Comfort Inner City Motel.
