Biosecurity Forum and Council Meeting in Merredin

WAFarmers and the Agricultural Biotechnology Council of Australia (ABCA) invite all farmers to attend a free farmer information briefing on technological developments in farming.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to have their say on issues related to the grains industry at a public grains meeting following the forum.

The event – Farming into the Future: Biotechnology and Your Farm – will feature a range of industry speakers discussing issues relating to biotechnology and cropping, including internationally-recognised agricultural biotechnology expert Professor Mike Jones from Murdoch University and genetics and breeding expert Professor Ian Edwards from Edstar Genetics.

The forum aims to increase knowledge of topics including current and future markets, agronomic potential and supply chain considerations for current and present biotechnology products and the science and practicalities behind coexistence.

Experts will discuss issues including the science behind biotechnology crops, production and agronomy considerations, legislation and regulation in Australia, storage and handling considerations and domestic and international marketing considerations.

Discussions from the public grains meeting following the forum will be conveyed to the WAFarmers Annual Grains Council meeting the following week.

The event will take place on Friday, March 14, at Merredin Regional Community and Leisure Centre from 9am to 1pm, and includes lunch and refreshments, followed by a public grains meeting from 2pm to 5pm. The event is free to attend, but registrations are essential – please contact WAFarmers on (08) 9486 2100 or [email protected] to register.

Please note this information briefing has been designed to help farmers gain knowledge about biotechnology and make better informed agronomical decisions and is not designed to be political in nature.
