Bipartisan support for ChAFTA welcomed

WAFarmers has welcomed the restoration of bipartisan support for the landmark China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) which will see the deal ratified by Parliament and implemented as soon as possible.

The agreement is a groundbreaking step forward for Australian agriculture, enabling the industry to take advantage of reduced tariffs and enhance its competitive positon.

WAFarmers President Dale Park said the organisation is pleased that the Federal Government and the Labor Party have reached a compromise in the interest of Australia’s economic future.

“It is welcome news, particularly for the beef and dairy industries, and we look forward to increased exports and the flow-on effects for rural communities,” Mr Park said.

The agreement presents significant opportunities for Western Australian farmers and should impact positively on the agribusiness conducted between Australia and China.

WAFarmers commends the Minister for Trade and Investment, Andrew Robb, as well as the Government and Opposition for their support and commitment to ratifying ChAFTA as swiftly as possible.

Ends.
