Busselton beef forum a success

WAFarmers hosted a beef forum, Future Opportunities for Beef, on Wednesday in Busselton.

More than 70 producers, industry representatives and interested parties congregated at Abbey Beach Resort to hear from speakers including Senator Richard Colbeck, Meat and Livestock Australia Managing Director Richard Norton, Minderoo Group Investments Manager John Hartman and Agricultural Connections Australia Director Steve Meerwald.

Senator Richard Colbeck, parliamentary secretary to the minister for agriculture, addressed the crowd about the recently secured Free Trade Agreements and said sights were now focused on China, where it was important for industry to focus on food safety.

Richard Norton, who has only recently been appointed MLA Managing Director, updated attendees on the work of MLA and how they would be operating into the future.

With Minderoo Group recently purchasing Harvey Beef, John Hartman explained the plans for the future of the company and said there had been an overwhelmingly positive response from industry since taking over Harvey Beef.

Consultant Steve Meerwald talked about connecting with processors and marketers, and his presentation can be downloaded here.  Steve has also provided a graph on the cost of farmland in Australia compared with other countries (click to enlarge):
