Coalition’s commitments a positive step forward for agriculture

After a long wait for formal agriculture policies from the two major parties, WAFarmers is pleased to see the Coalition announce their plans for the future of the farming sector today.

The policy includes many of the priorities set out in the WAFarmers Federal Election 2013 Policy Statement and will provide a strong boost to agriculture should the Coalition be elected, WAFarmers President Dale Park said.

“Earlier in the campaign, WAFarmers called for parties contesting the election to commit to establishing economic conditions allowing agriculture to remain internationally competitive,” Mr Park said

“The additional $15million the Coalition has committed for market access will enable small exporters to remain competitive in a challenging environment.”

The WAFarmers Federal Election 2013 Policy Statement outlined a need for more investment in agriculture education and research and development, both of which have been addressed in the Coalition’s announcement.

“Today’s announcement is a positive step forward for agriculture in Australia and gives more detail to the Coalition’s recognition of the sector as one of the five key pillars of the country’s economy,” Mr Park said.

“We look forward to working with the newly elected Federal government, whoever that may be, on policies which deliver benefits to farmers on the ground.”
