Congratulations to WA’s Rising Champion finalist

WAFarmers congratulates member Blythe Calnan on being selected as the WA State finalist for the fourth NAB Agribusiness Rising Champions Initiative.

Blythe is one of seven State finalists chosen from a competitive field of more than thirty-five applicants. She will head to Canberra from 28 – 30 October where the State finalists will have the opportunity to build networks, develop skills and gain insights into the policy-making role of the Cattle Council of Australia.

“I’m really looking forward to travelling to Canberra and meeting those who make the decisions as well as the other finalists,” Blythe said.

Blythe, who grew up in the East Pilbara and is now based there, has spent four years working in the Middle East as an animal welfare and handling consultant for Meat and Livestock Australia.

She said she decided to get involved with the Rising Champions Initiative so she could contribute to the decision-making process regarding animal welfare and the Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS).

“A lot of decisions on ESCAS have been made in Canberra while I’ve been on the ground in the Middle East, so I’ve seen firsthand the impact those decisions have,” Blythe said.

“It is time for me to take the experience I gained in the Middle East and in the supply chain in Australia and become part of the conversation.”

The NAB Agribusiness Rising Champion will be announced at a Gala Dinner on Wednesday, October 30. WAFarmers wishes Blythe the best of luck in succeeding last year’s winner, Stephanie Coombes from WA, as this year’s national winner.
