WAFarmers launches fighting fund

WAFarmers launched a fighting fund today at the Dowerin Field Day to conduct an independent review in to the costs and benefits to rural WA if the Port of Fremantle is privatised.

The State Government announced that it plans to sell the state asset in a bid to get back in the black by the next financial year.

Rothschild and Deloitte are expected to provide a detailed recommendations report in December on the planned sale.

WAFarmers President Dale Park said he doubts this report will take in to consideration the costs or benefits to rural WA and wants independent assessment undertaken.

“We are asking the rural community to support this project by donating what they can so that we can ensure a fair outcome for farmers and exporters,” Mr Park said.

Donations to the fund can be made in person at the Dowerin, Newdegate and Mingenew Field Days and over the phone by contacting the WAFarmers office on (08) 9486 2100.

Ends.
