Grill’d chips in to support fire zone

Farmers within the Waroona-Harvey fire zone area are set to benefit from fundraising by Grill’d Healthy Burgers.

At a meeting at the Leederville store this afternoon, Restaurant Manager Daniel Griffin and WAFarmers Chief Executive Officer Stephen Brown spoke about the importance of all monetary donations towards the appeal, and how the burger chain had initiated a rollout of support throughout February across all Western Australian stores.

“Local Matters is designed to raise awareness and generate funding for non-for-profit initiatives, organisations and groups so they can continue to operate and have a positive impact on the local community – through this initiative, we have been able to donate $1.94 million to 11,557 local community projects so far,” Mr Griffin said.

“As part of the larger WA community we wanted to reach out and lend a hand to the bushfire victims through our Local Matters program this February.”

Mr Griffin said that every Grill’d customer received a Local Matters token, through which they could connect with the local community and learn more about the bushfire victims and the groups working to support them.

“We are helping to make the donation process accessible and spread information by setting up information hot-spots for our guests, through which they can find out how to best contact bushfire groups and what they can do to better connect and be involved,” he said.

Mr Brown said the support demonstrated by Grill’d Healthy Burgers was outstanding, with one hundred per cent of funds received going directly to the farmers in the affected area.

“Cash continues to be the most practical donation, with the purchase of fencing and feed being most needed at present,” Mr Brown said.

“Fencing, in particular, is a high priority item; with over 800 kilometers of fencing burnt and the cost of replacing this being approximately $2,000 per kilometer, lots of help is needed to get farmers back on their feet.”

“On behalf of farmers in the affected area, WAFarmers would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Grill’d for their generous support.”
