Industry stalwart to hang up his hat from WAFarmers Zone

A new era is on the horizon for the WAFarmers Corrigin/Lake Grace Zone, with Newdegate grain farmer and industry stalwart Bob Iffla set to hang up his hat from the Zone Presidency.

Mr Iffla announced his retirement from the role earlier this week at a WAFarmers Zone Meeting which featured special guests National Farmers’ Federation President Fiona Simson, Parliamentary Secretary to Minister for Agriculture and Food Hon. Darren West MLC, and National Party of WA representative Peter Rundle MLA.

WAFarmers President Tony York said Mr Iffla had demonstrated great passion for farming throughout his life, and had always put the community first.

“Mr Iffla has been tireless in his quest to promote both farming and WAFarmers, and his passion for agriculture and farm lobbying spans many decades and has taken a wide variety roles,” Mr York said.

“Bob has held the positions of Grains Council Executive and Grains Council President, has served on the WAFarmers Board, represented WA growers on Grains Council of Australia, and helped form and was Chairman of the Wheat Growers Association.

“Notably, Bob has demonstrated great compassion and selflessness by helping other farmers during times of great need over the years.

“He was instrumental in establishing the drought relief fund that WAFarmers and St Vincent De Paul administered in 2001-2002, which raised $600,000 to help farmers feed starving stock.”

Mr York said Mr Iffla is a person that many can hold as an example.

“Bob truly epitomizes the values and character of a farmer; he is savvy in his ability to lobby and campaign for farmers’ rights and is one hundred per cent dedicated to furthering Western Australian agriculture, particularly in his Zone,” Mr York said.

“On behalf of WAFarmers and the agricultural industry as a whole, I thank him for his tireless and unwavering support, both for our sector and for WAFarmers.

“We most certainly have not heard the last from Bob, and we look forward to continuing our engagement with one of the state’s most respected farmers as he enjoys his retirement from the Zone Presidency.”

A date for the Corrigin/Lake Grace Zone AGM is yet to be determined but should take place around the end of September, at which time a new Zone President will be elected.
