Inquiry into environmental biosecurity

WAFarmers is making a submission on the senate inquiry into Environmental Biosecurity.

The Environment and Communications Reference Committee is investigating the adequacy of arrangements which prevent the entry and establishment of invasive species likely to harm the natural environment of Australia. The inquiry is broad, covering risks posed by any exotic organism relevant to the WA grains industry, and potential for preventatives and improvements in the current system.

WAFarmers is seeking member feedback on any relevant issues regarding biosecurity risks in regards to improving management and declaration of pests and disease for canola seed sales in Australia. Please direct feedback to Jess Moniodis by Friday August 15 on 08 9486 2100 or [email protected].

The submission is due August 22 and further information can be downloaded at: http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Environment_and_Communications/biosecurity
