Ladies taking steps to develop action

WAFarmers Leading Ladies held their first meeting this week at WAFarmers Head Office.

Thirty five women from various industries and locations across the state gathered with the purpose of the meeting to begin developing the Leading Ladies action plan, what is expected of the group and to take nominations for the Committee.

WAFarmers Marketing and Communication Manager, Allie McNeice, said the main objective was to discuss strategies for educating the next generation about where their food comes from.

“The first meeting was a tremendous success and gives the Leading Ladies concept a great foundation to build upon,” Ms McNeice said.

“The women that attended came brimming with ideas and concepts for how we can better educate future Western Australians about the origin of their food.”

Ms McNeice said some of the discussion centred on what was the best age to start teaching children about where food comes from.

“We discussed at length what age was the best to start this education process. Was it early childhood, primary school or even teenagers when many younger people are starting to develop their own opinions and understandings,” she said.

“The ladies discussed and listened to presentations about examples of what is currently being done to educate children about food, which proved worthwhile to gain an understanding or what is currently being offered and what we can do as a group to assist and expand on those programs.”

Ms McNeice said while WAFarmers received a number of nominations for the Leading Ladies committee on the night, there was still room for more committee members.

“We are still looking for a few more committee members to ensure a variety of views and experience on the Committee to help guide Leading Ladies in its initial phase,” she said.

“It is absolutely imperative that we have a strong committee set up for the Leading Ladies to help the group take flight, and turn great concepts and ideas into action.”
