WAFarmers congratulates AgConnectWA member Luke Ieraci, who was announced as a runner up in the inaugural Brownes Dairy Young Dairy Farmer of the Year Awards tonight.
A 21-year-old third-generation dairy farmer from Brunswick Junction, Mr Ieraci was the youngest finalist across the two award categories, both of which were announced at the WAFarmers Dairy Industry Dinner following the 2016 Dairy Innovation Day.
Mr Ieraci, who nominated for the dairy farm owner or share farmer category, acknowledged the achievements of his fellow finalists and the award winners, Lachlan Fry and Brentin Matthews.
“I am very honoured to be a finalist and runner up for this award, which presents an invaluable opportunity for young people within the Western Australian dairy industry to inspire others and generate discussion about how best to increase participation within the industry,” he said.
“I congratulate Lachlan, Brentin and the other finalists for their outstanding contribution to the sector, and look forward to seeing the positive difference they can make for the future of the Western Australian dairy industry.”
In his application, Mr Ieraci highlighted the importance of employing young people within the dairy industry as being a priority for the development of the sector.
“I believe that the biggest challenge facing the dairy industry is the attraction and retention of young people into the sector, so I hope to continue to work alongside key industry representatives to achieve this goal.”
