Muresk student from Glencoe awarded WAFarmers Scholarship

WAFarmers congratulates Ulla Crossley, who was the recipient of the $5,000 WAFarmers Scholarship at the Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management Graduation Presentation Ceremony last night.

Ms Crossley (22), who is in her second year of the degree run by Charles Sturt University through Muresk Institute, said being the recipient meant a great deal and would relieve some of the financial challenges associated university life.

“I will use the scholarship to take pressure off sourcing funds for costs that occur throughout the year, which can include textbooks, study materials, accommodation costs, compulsory field trips and tours,” she said.

“I would also like to broaden my knowledge outside of Charles Sturt University and my degree by participating in short courses and seminars for both the livestock and cropping sides of the agricultural industry.”

Ms Crossley would like to pursue a career in agronomy at the completion of her studies.

“Linking growers with knowledge and practise in how they can reduce their impact on the environment, while also improving their success and productivity are great interests of mine,” she said.

“I also hope to have a much larger interaction with the family farm in Glencoe, as being a part of the operational decisions would allow me to broaden my knowledge and give me the opportunity to experience the practicality of putting theories into practise.”

WAFarmers CEO Stephen Brown said it was the second year in a row that WAFarmers had sponsored the scholarship at the Muresk Institute, following a long break.

“Thanks to the dedication of the Trustees, CWA State President Heather Allen and WAFarmers President Tony York, we are proud to continue to sponsor a scholarship at Muresk,” he said.

“The WAFarmers Scholarship Trust Fund was established in the 1980’s to support students studying for a future career in agriculture at Muresk via a scholarship, including financial support.

“We believe Ulla will be a fantastic representative for the agricultural industry and, to support her development, she has also been offered a complimentary annual membership to AgConnectWA, in addition to work experience with WAFarmers during Muresk holidays.”
