Produce and producers celebrated at annual Heart of WA

Western Australian produce and the people who grow it were celebrated at the fourth annual Heart of WA gala dinner on Friday night.

Facilitated by MC Alistair McLeod, the event at HBF Stadium featured a six course degustation menu and Western Australian drinks.

“As the prestige of this event continues to evolve, we find ourselves wanting to acknowledge the state’s outstanding produce in bigger and better ways, so a six course degustation was a fantastic way to do this,” WAFarmers President Tony York said.

“It was a sensational gastronomic experience for our guests, of which there were nearly 400 – our largest event yet.

“We are so proud of the way Heart of WA has evolved over the years, and I acknowledge the outstanding work of the WAFarmers team past and present for making the event what it is today.”

Guests were kept entertained throughout the evening with jokes from the Irish-born MC, a classical string trio, an impressive vocal performance from local duo AViiDA, and a mesmerising performance from bubble artist Denis Lock.

Mr York said the event supported WAFarmers to continue to advocate for the state’s farming community.

“Attendance directly contributes to the ability of WAFarmers to continue to undertake our important advocacy and support work, saving farmers both time and money, and providing critical support in times of difficulty,” he said.

“It’s been a rollercoaster season thus far and we know we will be kept busy over the coming months as we support our members and, by extension, the wider agricultural industry, so not only does attendance support this goal but it provides people within the industry with an opportunity to celebrate the good times.”

At the event, WAFarmers also announced the appointment of their new Chief Executive Officer, Trent Kensett-Smith, who will commence at the organisation on Tuesday 26 September.
