Vitality 2018: Exceptional ag representatives recognised at Gala Dinner

Six individuals were recognised at tonight’s WAFarmers Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony for their service and dedication to WAFarmers and the state’s agricultural sector.

WAFarmers President Tony York said all recipients had demonstrated outstanding commitment towards the development of the state’s agricultural industries.

“The six individuals acknowledged tonight were nominated by their communities for their contribution, passion and dedication to WAFarmers and the agricultural industry at large,” Mr York said.

“The Gala Dinner and Awards are an opportunity to recognise these outstanding people, all of whom have worked tirelessly to advance WA agriculture and, in some cases, to act on behalf of WAFarmers Members on all matters of interest.

“I congratulate all our 2018 winners on their achievements and thank them for their service.”

Mr York said Life Membership Award winner Dale Park’s continued lifetime involvement with WAFarmers, finishing as President in 2016 after a four year term, made him an exceptional candidate for Life Membership.

“Dale has proven a strong and passionate advocate for agriculture and his industry, and has generously offered his energy and enthusiasm in fulfilling numerous roles for WAFarmers over the years,” Mr York said.

“He has selflessly forfeited his personal time and energy for WAFarmers and has not been reserved in his beliefs, always putting a strong case with fervor particularly when arguing a point.

“He has demonstrated an unwavering dedication and commitment to WAFarmers since starting out as secretary to the Bullsbrook-Chittering Branch in 1978, and it is my honour to have presented him with this award tonight.”

Mr York said the support of President’s Award winner Lyn Slade had been invaluable since he took on the role of President in 2016.

“Lyn has been able to council me, encourage me to pick up on the important issues, give guidance and keep me on track with my roles and responsibilities, has been an astute ear on issues and has worked hard to follow these up, all of which have helped me immensely in my role,” Mr York said.

The 2018 WAFarmers award winners were:

  • Dale Park (Life Membership)
  • Lyn Slade (President’s Award)
  • Wayne and Jennie Franceschi (Industry Services Award)
  • Lachlan Hunter (AgConnectWA Award)
  • Kallum Blake (Certificate of Merit)

In addition to the awards, guests were kept entertained by speed painter Brad Blaze, with all three of his artworks auctioned off alongside a cricket bat signed by the Australian cricket team, and a West Coast Eagles football jumper signed by 2014 Brownlow Medalist Matt Priddis.

WAFarmers would like to thank the Event sponsors: Coles (Platinum Sponsor), the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (Silver Sponsor), CBH Group, GRDC, Telstra, Meat and Livestock Australia, and Egg Farmers of Australia (Bronze Sponsors), CropLife Australia (Sundowner Sponsor), Bailiwick Legal (Satchel Sponsor), Bresland Insurance Group (Lanyard Sponsor), Meat and Livestock Australia (Livestock Section AGM Sponsor), Linley Valley Pork, Harvey Beef, Mt Barker Chicken, Sittella Winery and Gage Roads Brewing Co (Produce Sponsors).
