WA milk shipped east to prevent wastage

WAFarmers is facilitating milk shipments to the east from the state’s out-of-contract dairy farmers to prevent the dumping of their unwanted milk during their transitional period.

WAFarmers Dairy Section President Michael Partridge said the measure was only a short-term arrangement and would buy more time for industry and government to discuss export growth and opportunities.

“Their only option at the moment is to pour the milk down the drain, so this temporary arrangement will prevent milk wastage which, we can all agree, is better than seeing their hard work being poured down the drain,” he said.

“This temporary arrangement is funded by the WAFarmers Dairy Council who considered it to be a necessary measure to support these farmers as they continue to manage their options.”

Money raised from the sale of WAFarmersFirst Milk can help during this difficult time.

Mr Partridge said the money was primarily used for promoting the state’s dairy industry, but the WAFarmers Dairy Council felt this unfortunate situation warranted attention.

“The best way for the general public to help the industry right now is to buy WAFarmersFirst Milk,” he said.

“By purchasing the milk, consumers can contribute towards the temporary arrangement and thus help the farmers during the transitional period.”
