WAFarmers joins Chinese Market

WAFarmers announced this evening at the Heart of WA Ball that it will be sending West Australian produce to China.

WAFarmers has worked hard on the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) and as part of that process is becoming heavily involved in the Chinese market to better understand how it works.

To achieve this, WAFarmers has formed a partnership with the company Lifeland, owned and operated by CEO Sha Yi, who has lived in WA for a number of years.

A successful businessman in China, Sha Yi was impressed by the quality and variety of produce available here and saw potential in WA’s agricultural industry, wanting to make the produce available in his homeland.

“I have visited many places around the globe but nothing compared to the great tasting food in Perth,” Sha Yi said.

“Food safety is paramount to the Chinese people so WA offers a unique opportunity.

“Some of the highest quality food in the world is grown here and it is in close proximity to China making it the ideal choice,” Sha Yi said.

The first product to leave the State under the WAFarmers brand will be milk and honey with more products soon to follow.

WAFarmers President Dale Park said this is an exciting project for WAFarmers to be a part of.

“We have worked for a long time in the office on the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement and this gives us the opportunity to understand the Chinese market firsthand,” Mr Park said.

The first shipment of WAFarmers milk and honey is expected to leave next month.

Ends.
