WAFarmers makes submission to rail inquiry

WAFarmers has made a submission to the Economics & Industry Standing Committee regarding the parliamentary inquiry into the management of Western Australia’s freight rail network.

Issues raised include:

  • the confidentiality of the rail network lease agreement which hampers the long term viability of the state asset
  • the urgent need for a regulator to monitor the operational performance of the network including maintenance schedules
  • current strategic directions and policy decisions are flawed as they are based on the flawed and outdated Strategic Grain Network Review (SGNR) of 2009
  • the Railways (Access) Code 2000 should be amended to incorporate a more appropriate methodology to determine track access floor and ceiling prices.
