Last Friday, representatives from WAFarmers attended a discussion day hosted by the Department of Agriculture and Food to assess industry’s preparedness for a potential incursion of foot and mouth disease and the resulting livestock standstill.

The state discussion exercise brought together more than 60 representatives from government and the livestock industries that would be most heavily impacted by a livestock standstill – including transporters, saleyards, processors, stock agents, exporters, intensive industries, agricultural shows, animal welfare and producer associations.

The discussion exercised forms part of Exercise Odysseus, a nationally-coordinated program of more than 50 local, state and national activities to assess preparedness for a national livestock standstill.

For more information about a livestock standstill, go to the national livestock standstill webpage. There is also an online quiz that will test your level of knowledge about a standstill.
