WAFarmers pleased with $14.5m research outcome for WA’s grain industry

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has announced the first-of-its-kind collaborative investment of $14.5 million to improve grain farm profitability in Western Australia.

The collaborative investment consists of three grain crop and soil nutrition research projects which will be led by the University of WA with Murdoch University and industry involvement.

WAFarmers Grains Section President Duncan Young welcomed the announcement, made today at the annual GRDC Grains Research Update.

“It has been a long time coming for this collaborative approach to research in Western Australia,” Mr Young said.

“This is an evolution of what was GrainsWest, announced in 2015, which WAFarmers has been working with industry to develop.

“Today’s announcement will see the collaboration of universities, industry, and government and research funders, and a new way of doing research that will help improve efficiencies for WA growers.”

Mr Young said WAFarmers welcomed the opportunity to be involved in the development of this collaborative approach and was looking forward to seeing more announcements like this in the future.
