WAFarmers has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement that they will maintain current funding to the Rural Financial Counselling Service (RFCS).
A report on the National Rural Advisory Council (NRAC) review of the free financial counselling scheme was tabled last November.
The Government will adopt most of the recommendations but Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce does not support the 20 per cent funding cut advised by the NRAC.
WAFarmers President Dale Park is pleased that the Minister has rejected that recommendation.
“The service provided by RFCS is invaluable to farmers in need of advice and assistance so it is good to see that the funding will remain.
“However, further assurance as to the Government’s long term support of the RFCS is something that farming communities would appreciate,” Mr Park said.
“It takes time for stressed farm businesses to successfully adjust.
“Therefore, they need the confidence of RFCS’s continued support during that difficult process” Mr Park said.
