WAFarmers welcomes FTA with China

WAFarmers commends the Federal Government on securing the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) today.

The agreement, which comes after a decade of negotiations, will decrease the tariffs which Australian businesses previously faced.

WAFarmers President Dale Park said the agreement should have a significant and positive impact on agribusiness conducted between Australia and China.

“Australian goods are acknowledged worldwide for their high quality and this agreement will help to hasten the export of our commodities,” Mr Park said.

The formalisation of the agreement is another positive step towards bolstering Australia’s agricultural industry by securing commercially meaningful deals for the country’s farmers and producers.

“These things don’t happen overnight but our members look forward to taking advantage of the decreased tariffs,” Mr Park said.

Ends.
