WAFarmers welcomes Indonesia-Australia trade agreement

WAFarmers welcomes the confirmation that negotiations for the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) have been successful, with the Australian and Indonesia Government signing off on the partnership.

WAFarmers President Tony York said the agreement will create greater trade opportunities with increased market access.

“Australia will be able to export more livestock, beef and sheep meat, grain, honey and horticulture produce to Indonesia – Australian farmers will have tariffs reduced providing more confidence within the Indonesian-Australian supply chain and future trade relationships strengthened,” Mr York said.

“Indonesia is Australia’s fourth largest Agriculture market, and Australia’s total exports to our neighbours are worth AU$3.5billion to our economy.

“It’s great to see the partnership with Indonesia continue through the trade agreement, which will create greater opportunities for Australian agriculture.

“This recent announcement with our close-neighbours will give us in WA great opportunities in particular our grains, beef and sheep industries.”
