WAFarmers welcomes new Nationals leadership

WAFarmers congratulates Minister for Agriculture Barnaby Joyce on his election as leader of the Federal National Party.

WAFarmers also extends its congratulations to Minister for Rural Health Fiona Nash, who has been appointed Deputy Leader.

With Senator Nash hailing from a rural property in Young, New South Wales, and Minister Joyce’s roots stemming from a sheep and cattle background in Woolbrook, also in New South Wales, the pair is in a strong position to bring farmer’s interests to the fore.

WAFarmers Chief Executive Officer Stephen Brown said he was excited by the refresh in leadership within the National Party.

“With both leaders coming from a rural background, it provides an opportunity for agriculture to be placed front and centre in Canberra and will give the sector a strong voice in Federal politics,” he said.

“WAFarmers looks forward to working with the leadership group and contributing to policy and innovations that will further build and strengthen the Australian agricultural industry.”

WAFarmers President Dale Park extended his thanks to outgoing National Party leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Warren Truss.

“Mr Truss has been monumental in championing agriculture and regional interests within Federal politics during his time in Parliament. We thank him for his service on behalf of the entire agriculture sector and wish him all the best,” Mr Park said.
