“Well, this is the roadmap that’s been on the road for a long time”
That’s how WAFarmers’ CEO Trevor Whittington started his interview with ABC WA Country Hour host Belinda Varischetti today in response to her question about the clarity of the Federal Government’s WA roadmap out of the live sheep trade.
The interview took place while Trevor was attending an industry workshop in Perth, where he said more talking was wasting valuable time:
“It’s a massive missed opportunity, you know, and the federal government’s to blame for this. There’s no leadership from the State Minister for Agriculture…
If there was a window to put a shot in the arm of confidence, it’s over the next four weeks when people are making decisions. And we’re going to miss the boat, despite the best endeavours of a lot of people, at the event I’m at today, the great and the good and the smart, trying to get the, what they call the roadmap, mapped out and finalised.
By the time we do all this… It’s going to be too late.
So what do we do? Wait another year? I don’t know.
