Agriculture the priority for Telstra fundraising

Over $11,000 has been raised for WAFarmers by Vita Group and Telstra customers to assist bushfire recovery efforts.

Vita Group initiated the three-month fundraising initiative through Telstra stores across Western Australia to support advocacy for the state’s agricultural sector and contribute to the WAFarmers bushfire appeals.

From 26 December 2015 to 26 March 2016, ten dollars from the sale of new post paid mobile connections made on Saturdays across participating Telstra stores was donated towards the WAFarmers fund, with a grand total of $11,320 raised during this period.

WAFarmers Chief Executive Officer Stephen Brown said Vita Group, which owns the 22 participating Telstra stores, approached WAFarmers last year and encouraged them to take part.

“We thank Vita Group for their generous donation and their support of the Western Australian agriculture sector,” Mr Brown said.

”The fact that consumers felt that WAFarmers was a worthy recipient of the funds highlights the general public’s support of the agricultural sector and indicates that there a strong connection between the city and the country.

“As the leading telecommunications provider across much of regional Australia, we know that Telstra has a vested interest in the agricultural sector and works to provide the best possible service for those people living outside metropolitan areas.

“These funds will be used to assist recovery efforts initiated by WAFarmers following the Esperance and Harvey-Waroona fires, work towards representing the voice of our members and ensure we continue to work towards a more viable, profitable and sustainable future for the agricultural industry.”

The fundraising efforts were celebrated at a cheque presentation at the Midland Gate Telstra store this morning.
