WAFarmers welcomes new Minister for Agriculture and Food

The Western Australian Farmers Federation (Inc.) (WAFarmers) congratulates Mining and Pastoral Region MLC, Hon Ken Baston, on his appointment as Western Australia’s new Minister for Agriculture and Food.

WAFarmers President, Dale Park, said the news of Mr Baston’s appointment as a dedicated Minister for Agriculture was exactly what WAFarmers and its members had been calling for.

“Our members have been very clear they want a dedicated Minister for Agriculture and the Premier has delivered that,” Mr Park said.

“I welcome Mr Baston to the portfolio and look forward to working with him to further develop agriculture in Western Australia and to address the key issues facing the state’s farmers.”

In the lead up to the state election, WAFarmers released its 10 Key State Election Issues which reflect the wants and needs for the state’s farmers.

“WAFarmers looks forward to meeting with Mr Baston and other Ministers to progress our 10 key issues and ensure the Liberal-National Government addresses the key factors affecting the state’s primary producers,” he said.

WAFarmers also acknowledged the appointment of Hon Albert Jacob to the Environment Portfolio; Hon Bill Marmion to Mines and Petroleum, Hon Terry Redman to Water and Hon Troy Buswell to Transport.

“All these portfolios affect our members and the farmers of Western Australia so we are looking forward to meeting with these Ministers in the near future,” Mr Park concluded.
