Canola growers to benefit from nitrogen trial – DAFWA

A research project that will assist canola growers to ‘play the season’ with nitrogen fertiliser applications to optimise their crop potential is underway across the grainbelt. This is the second year of the Department of Agriculture and Food’s five year Tactical Break Crop Agronomy project, co-funded by the Grains Research and Development Corporation. Department development officer Jackie Bucat said last year’s trial results showed there was no disadvantage from applying nitrogen late in the year.

Crop damaging nematodes found in new area – DAFWA

Growers are reminded to investigate uneven crops to check if plant parasitic nematodes are present, after root lesion and burrowing nematodes were found in the Moora area. Department of Agriculture and Food nematologist Sarah Collins recently visited the area where a number of wheat and barley crops have been damaged by burrowing (Radopholus) nematodes and by root lesion nematodes (Pratylenchus, RLN).
