Katanning Live Export Meeting | Friday 20 July

WAFarmers Upper Great Southern, Central Great Southern and Corrigin/Lake Grace Zones are holding a combined meeting tomorrow, Friday 20 July at the Ram Pavilion, Katanning Leisure Centre to provide a forum for farmers and allied businesses to convey their opinions about the current situation of live sheep trade in Western Australia.

This meeting is open to the public and we encourage farmers and anyone involved in the livestock industry to come along and share their views and concerns about the live export industry. WAFarmers would like to hear firsthand how the current uncertainty surrounding the live sheep trade is impacting the industry and its farmers. WAFarmers is wanting to learn how these impacts can be mitigated, which will assist in putting a strong case to government for the continuation of the trade.

WAFarmers can confirm Rick Wilson MP Federal Member for O’Connor will be speaking at the forum, representing the Federal Government and Hon. Alannah MacTiernan Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development representing the Western Australia State Government.

WAFarmers has received acceptances from Federal and State members of parliament as well as stock agents, exporters and livestock carriers.  There will be an opportunity for guests to ask questions of these representatives.

There will be representation from the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture and Water Resources on behalf of the independent regulator who oversees the live export trade.
