Livestock event to prioritise industry research and technology

Livestock ’17 is coming up shortly, run by WAFarmers alongside Stirlings to Coast Farmers.

This event will feature the latest in research and technology updates for the livestock industry, and will include presentations from some of the most sought-after local and national speakers in the industry.

Want to know more about some of the event speakers?

  • Professor James Rowe (CEO, Sheep CRC Ltd) | Before taking on his current role, he was the Professor or Animal Science at the University of New England for eight years. Professor Rowe has over 30 years’ research experience working for commercial companies, international development programs, government agencies and universities.
  • Neroli Smith (MSA Business Development Officer, MLA) | Neroli has worked for MLA for six years as Business Development Officer with the Meat Standards Australia team, and was previously employed in various short term contracts with DAFWA in beef and dairy research. She has a Bachelor in Agriculture from University of New England (completed as a mature age student by correspondence) and Honours in Biomedical Science from Murdoch University where she looked at use of CT and DEXA for measuring yield in lambs.
  • Jeremy Devenish (WA State Manager, South Western Wireless WA) | Jeremy has been at the helm of South Western Wireless WA since its inception. A long-time entrepreneur, Jeremy has a fascination for technology with qualifications in both the wireless and solar fields. He is passionate about providing connectivity solutions for farmers in remote areas that allow them to utilise the growing trend towards autonomous farming, IOT based farming applications and many other cloud based software programs without the restrictions of current internet speeds and capacity within regional Western Australia.
  • Beth Paganoni (Research Officer, Sheep Industry Business Innovation – DPIRD) | Beth grew up on a farm in East Broomehill where, in some paddocks, the sand was so white she thought she lived at the beach. She cut her research teeth working on the Lifetime Wool Project. After far too much education, some intense mentoring and a light diploma in life skills she is back working for the sheep industry. Recently, Beth has become involved in the application of movement sensors to match lambs to ewes as an alternative to current expensive and labour-intensive methods of obtaining pedigree information. This is an exciting area of new technology that the SIBI program has invested in to potentially fast-track the genetic and reproductive progress of the state flock.

Tickets are only $60 per person for WAFarmers Members (and Stirlings to Coast Farmers members). That’s a saving of $40!

Special thanks to the major event sponsor, Meat & Livestock Australia.
