Welcome Shannen!

WAFarmers has recently welcomed Shannen Barrett to the team as the organisation’s full time Junior Policy Officer.

Working under the guidance of the existing policy staff, Shannen will play a vital role in the development and maintenance of the WAFarmers Policy document, and will gain experience in advocacy and policy within a member-based agricultural organisation.

Born and raised in Geraldton, Shannen moved to Perth after completing high school, choosing to study for a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Geography at Curtin University.

“My family have strong ties to the Mullewa region – my dad came from a station background and then worked as a farm hand North of Mullewa as I was growing up, so we spent a fair bit of time in Mullewa on weekends to visit him,” Shannen said.

“I have also worked as a research assistant for Eurofins and then Living Farm in York over the last few years, which has ignited my passion for agriculture, in particular the importance of research and development within the industry.

“I’m really excited to start with WAFarmers and to develop my career within the agricultural industry.”

WAFarmers Chief Executive Officer Stephen Brown said Shannen was a stand-out candidate for the role.

“We look forward to having Shannen at WAFarmers and having her work alongside not only the existing policy staff but the rest of the team to represent the interests of our members on a local, state and national scale,” he said.
