Skeleton Weed Contributions Rise

The Grains, Seeds and Hay Industry Funding Scheme (IFS) Management Committee is seeking feedback on a proposal to increase the Grains, Seeds and Hay (IFS) contribution rate to from 30 cents per tonne of grain/seed sold to 35 cents and 15 cents per tonne of hay to 17 cents.  The Committee surveyed growers in 2013 with 86 per cent of the 474 growers wanting to maintain a program to address skeleton weed.  The Committee has

Floor and Ceiling Rail Access Costs

WAFarmers is extremely disappointed about the lack of information made available by Brookfield Rail Pty Ltd (BR) prior to the Economic Regulation Authority’s (ERA) public consultation on rail access costs. ADF-funded dairy visits

WAFarmers Dairy Section has received funding through Australian Dairy Farmers for a series of Dairy Members Days this year. One day each month, Dairy Executive Officer Stephanie Tarlinton and a member of the Dairy Council will visit the dairy farms of members and non-members, giving farmers a chance to meet WAFarmers representatives and hear directly about the work being done on behalf of industry. The first Dairy Members Day is January 22.

Submission on Raw Milk Products

WAFarmers Dairy Section has made a submission to Food Safety Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) on a proposal to consider permissions for the production and sale of raw milk products. Pursuant to Section 72 of the Food Standards Australia and New Zealand Act 1991, FSANZ called for submissions to assist further consideration of the proposal.

Beef survey closes soon

There is only one week remaining to submit your views via anonymous survey if you are a grass-fed beef cattle levy payer. Livestock ship visit

A small group of WAFarmers Meat Councillors, members and staff went on board Wellard’s Ocean Drover on Friday January 17 to look at procedures and on-board conditions for livestock.  Expectations were high and the consensus was that conditions were impressive.
